Stand-Up: Learn How To Slide - by Alex on UKGSA Forum

I'd suggest getting a harder wheel, and possibly a different board to learn on. Most of the popular slide boards are more similar to a street board but bigger.

As you approach your slide, you'll want a fair bit of speed. If I'm going to break the board out in front of me Coleman style for instance, then I try to roll my back foot over to the heel a little and start taking the weight on my hands.

Pushing with your back foot to bring the board out sideways, you should feel everything get a little more slippery than normal. Congratulations, you are now sliding sideways.

Hold your slide as long as you like, kick the board a little bit to get used to the feel of it. Fun isn't it?

This is only half the battle. You'll eventually want to get that board back under you, and it's sort of a case of bringing the board back to running straight again. I tend to push a little with my front foot and as I bring my back foot round I transfer my weight off my hands and sort of sit up.

The trick here is finding the right spot to do this - get it wrong and you'll be off the front of the board, or it'll want to carry on turning and you'll be off.

I hope some of this has helped - and don't forget to melt a load of chopping board all over a pair of gloves. Much better to scrub that all over a road than your palms.
