2008

Downhill Racers
Oxford University Press
 

Downhill racers is part of an educational series of books published by the Oxford University Press. Their well known reading series Oxford Reading Tree is used by over 12,000 primary schools in some 80 countries worldwide, making it the most popular and successful way to teach young children to read. This series, Project X, is designed to improve the litteracy of 7-8 year old boys. The book contains information about downhill racing and rider profiles, including my own. The Powered Streetluge World Record featured in the Action Sports section of the 2009 publication of the Guinness Book of Records. The feature listed details of the record and a photo of my with the Streetluge.

Following my World Record the Gadget Show did a feature on the Luge. I explained the various aspects of the Luge and taught the presenter how to race it down a drag strip.

Ford commissioned a series of adverts for the new C-Max. The premise of the adverts was that the owner of the new car would travel about the country trying out extreme sports.

A feature on the popular Daily Planet show for the Discovery Channel (Canada). The feature showed me and my record breaking Luge with an interview about the attempt and equipment used.

World Record Coverage

Coverage of my World Record included TV, radio, newspapers and magazines. These included a live studio appearance on BBC South Today during the 6pm News, repeated interviews and coverage on BBC News 24, interviews on BBC Radio 5 Live, Radio Scotland, Radio 2, SCR, Radio Suffolk, SGR FM and Spirit FM. The Metro, The Times, Sun, Lincolnshire Echo and WSCC Staff Connections (download pdf) also featured one or more articles on the record attempt.

Brave Heart
Balls - The Sports Magazine for Education
 
Balls is an educational magazine for students studying GSCE PE, AS Level PE, A Level PE and Vocational PE. It is distributed to schools across the country. The article looks into the Physical Science of Streetluge and how the heart reacts to the stresses involved. I helped answer questions posed by the magazine and feature in two of the accompanying photos.

I helped on Sony Ericsson's PR campaign for their new sports orientated mobile phone. I was asked to to tell the how much I enjoy using my W710i and how it helped with my training and enjoyment of the sport. My comments, alongside photos and videos of me taken using the phone, were used as a part of their national advertising campaign.
 

2006

Mission:Implausible
IWC Media / Sky

 
Me and my equipment were hired for a stunt show produced by IWC Media for Sky TV. I provided tuition to the presenters, Jason Plato and Tania Zaetta, in a Street Luge based stunt using rockets and a miniature Jet engine. Since it's original release on Sky1 it has been repeated several times on this channel and on Sky3.

White Air Coverage

Isle of Wight Radio did a live broadcast for several hours from the bottom of the Chicane Blast course. They provided music for the event and did live interviews with riders and the crowd. I was interviewed several times throughout the broadcast.

Final item on the regional news covering the Streetluge racing at the White Air Festival. I was the featured rider, being interviewed and shown racing against fellow competitors.

With the arrival of Zoe Salmon as a new presenter at the beginning of 2005, Blue Peter gave her the challenge of riding Streetluge at White Air for her first assignment. I appear in this program racing other riders.

Britain's Most Extreme

As a part of this Sky extreme sports contest, filmed during the White Air festival, I taught the competitors how to Luge. This included an interview, master class with the competitors and demonstration runs with cameras both attached to my person and following me down the hill.

A 10, minute prime time program for which I taught Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards how to Luge. As well as several minutes of interviews and training sessions with Eddie I was also seen frequently riding and socialising with other riders.
