About Streetluge

Gravity sports are DANGEROUS, please read our disclaimer. Click Here

Gravity Sports are a cheap and exhilarating way to get into racing, and a chance to have loads of fun. Using the power of gravity alone the idea is to be the quickest down the hill. At speeds up to, and exceeding 70mph courses range from mountain roads to city streets, many miles in length to only a few hundred meters. But all challenge the rider's skill when pitted against fellow athletes.

Streetluge

The Luge is a cross between a Skateboard and more traditional Ice Luge, on which the rider lies down feet first. The board is made from steel, aluminium and/or composite materials and runs on up to eight wheels. To steer the rider moves their bodyweight, either by sitting up and leaning or rotating their body and hanging off the board. There are no brakes on a Luge, instead the rider wears modified shoes and drag their feet on the road. This is a very effective way to stop rapidly. A Street Luge will often out perform a car down fast technical roads. Riders reach speeds in excess of 70mph while only an inch or two from the ground.

Safety

Most gravity sports require the use of motorcycle style leathers, helmets and gloves to protect against impact and abrasion. These can be picked up very cheaply second hand from motorcycly shops and off ebay. Courses are often lined with bales and other types of padding to protect riders on impact.
